30 years of PANINO GIUSTO | Our story
In 1979, when the first
Panino Giusto opened, its founders did not expect it to become so popular.
At that time, restaurants and pizzerias used to close before midnight
and wine bars and sandwich bars did not exist. With Panino Giusto’s
late opening times, superb quality and quantity of gastronomic specialities,
young people started to use Panino Giusto as a meeting point where to
have healthy snacks until late.
As time passed by, Panino Giusto became a popular and successful
establishment, often badly imitated. At the end of the 80’s,
however, the change in work exigencies changed people’s lifestyles;
people started to have short lunch breaks and Panino Giusto became the
best choice for a light and filling lunch. Consequently, Panino Giusto
turned from a meeting point only used by young people to a fashionable
place for business people who wanted to have a good lunch in a short break.
In 1993, the second Panino
Giusto opened in piazza Beccaria, Milan, and this led to the necessity
to widen the choice within our menu. As an alternative to paninis, fresh
salads and cold main courses were introduced. Panino Giusto opened another
two restaurants in Milan: one in Piazza XXIV Maggio, in 1995,
and the other in the shopping district of via Cherubini, in 1999.
During the late 90’s
we started growing nationally and internationally. Our first stores outside
Milan were opened in 1997
in Porto Cervo – Sardinia, and in 1999
in Tokyo and Yokohama – Japan.
The fifth Panino Giusto opened in 2002
in Via Malpighi, Milan. This time, the simple Paninoteca evolved into
a real modern restaurant with a wide menu, which included many different
courses such as pasta, soups, grilled meat, fresh vegetables and salads,
cold main courses and homemade desserts.
30 years have passed since the opening of the first Panino Giusto and
to this day, we ensure all our restaurants provide the same high quality
and standards that made it so popular and successful.
